GCMS - How the testing we use works

The method that we use to analyze samples sent in by our partners utilizes a combination of Gas Chromatography and Mass Spectrometry (hence GCMS) to identify various substances in a sample. This unique instument is able to provide both gas chromatography separations as well as high resolution mass measurements, allowing for chemical formula confirmation of opioids, byproducts, and fillers in the samples you submit. This platform allows for a more sensitive analysis than others commonly used and provides substance identification that is difinitive.

Utilizing the GCMS through our lab thus far, have you seen results that were surprising or unexpected? What trends are you identifying in your local drug supply that are new and potentially problematic? We’d love to hear more about what you’re seeing in the results in your area! Feel free to respond below in the comments on any of this or on the New York Times article.
